A General Power of Attorney is limited to financial matters and only applies while you have capacity. It is often used for short-term situations, such as when you are travelling overseas and need someone to manage your financial affairs during that time.
An Enduring Power of Attorney continues even if you lose the capacity to make your own decisions, and remains in effect until it is revoked. You can set restrictions, appoint multiple attorneys, define how they must make decisions (jointly, by majority, or severally), and name replacement attorneys if needed. Requirements for Making an Advance Health Directive
At some point in the future, you may be unable to make decisions about your health care, even temporarily due to illness, accident, dementia, stroke, or mental health conditions. An Advance Health Directive ensures your wishes are known and respected when you cannot speak for yourself.
An Advance Health Directive allows you to set out instructions for your future medical treatment and appoint a trusted person (an attorney) to make health care decisions on your behalf. This ensures health professionals have clear guidance about the care you want to receive.
To make an Advance Health Directive, you must be 18 years or older and have the capacity to understand its nature and effect. It must be signed by both you and your doctor in the presence of an eligible witness, who confirm that you appeared to have capacity at the time.
